As part of our continuing
efforts to support organizations dedicated to helping people, animals,
and/or the environment, Snooty Jewelry has created a program we call
'Round up for Change'.
When making purchases on-line
or in person, customers have the option to round up their subtotal to the
nearest $1, $5, $10, or higher. 100% of this amount will go directly
to the Featured Organization of the month.
Here's an example of how it
works: Goody-two-shoes.org is the featured organization of the
month. Your sub total (including applicable sales tax, and shipping)
is $52.40. If you rounded up to $53.00, sixty cents would go to
Goody-two-shoes.org. If you rounded up to $55.00, the donated amount
would be $2.60 and so forth.
To round up your total, click
.
This will add a line to your order form. Change the Quantity to the amount
you want donated to the Featured Organization. So if for example, you wanted to round up your total by $1.55,
change the Round Up quantity to 1.55.
At this time, the
Shopping Cart is not programmed to add the Round Up figure to your
'Total'. If paying with a credit card, the Round Up amount will be added
when your payment is processed. If paying by check, money order, or
PayPal, please send your Total amount including the Round Up.
This
Month's Featured Organization
Our featured organization
this month is Tribe of Heart - a not-for-profit organization
that makes use of storytelling, visual media, and the arts to present
a vision of a compassionate future.
Tribe of Heart is currently producing "Animal People," a
four-part documentary anthology about people helping animals in
unique and inspiring ways. In sharing the life-changing journeys
that brought these individuals to their calling, these documentaries
demonstrate how one person can make a difference, and how each of us
can play a role in creating a kinder world for both animals and
people. Conceived in collaboration with the International
Institute for Humane Education
(IIHE), which offers the nation's
first and only humane education certification program, the Animal
People anthology is intended to fill an identified need in this field
for high quality programs that explore the ethical issues around our
society's treatment of animals while fostering connections with other
social justice movements and cultivating compassion for all living
beings.
The first volume of the anthology, THE WITNESS, which won the Best
Documentary award at the Canyonlands Film Festival, is about Eddie
Lama, a construction contractor from a tough Brooklyn neighborhood who
is not your stereotypical animal activist. In THE WITNESS,
Eddie explains how he grew up with
contempt for animals, until the love
of a kitten opened his heart, inspiring him to rescue abandoned
animals, become a vegetarian, and ultimately, to bring his message of
compassion to the streets of New York City. Without judgment,
Eddie explores the step by step process of his remarkable change in
consciousness, and in doing so,
invites his audience to reexamine
their own ideas about animals. Featuring the song
"Angel" by Sarah McLachlan, this is a story of beauty and
transcendence in the face of tragedy and despair.
THE WITNESS is scheduled
for release in July, when it will be screened at the AR2000
conference in
Washington, DC, the
Vegetarian
Summerfest in Asheville NC, and the
World
Vegetarian Congress in Toronto. Also in July, Tribe of Heart
will debut the Animal People Anthology web site, which will offer
background information on each volume of the anthology, compassionate
living resources, and profiles of humane educators and activists who
are using THE WITNESS as a vehicle for education.
Tribe of Heart was
founded in 1997 by James LaVeck and Jenny Stein, who have been
collaborating on creative projects for the last ten years in the areas
of literary publishing, screenwriting, the arts, and communications
consulting.
